Hordain (Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France) Hordain is a populated place in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, which is a region of France. Hordain is twinned with Ryton on Dunsmore.
Hordain is a village very similar to Ryton in the northeast region of France. The first charters between Ryton-on-Dunsmore and Hordain were signed in Ryton on the 29th June 1996 at the occasion of the Church Fete. This was followed in October by the signing of another Charter in Hordain, attended by the British Consulate for Northern France. All formalities completed, the twinning between our two villages was then registered with the Local Government International Bureau.
Subsequently there have been many exchanges, which have been supported by both communities with many of the youth in both villages benefitting by the integration of our two communities, particularly through our schools. One year we had 96 guests from Hordain, most of whom were hosted by families in the village.
After the sad death of Colin Jones, our chairman, a Trophy was donated in his name and Ryton Albion Football team (sadly Ryton Albion has now folded now).
The aim of our association is to offer assistance to any village organisation that wish to take advantage of the opportunity to meet and integrate in friendship with the community of Hordain. Many strong friendships have been forged through our twinning. One day we hope our village will see twinning signs.
At the annual church fete there are always teams from Hordain in the 5-a-side soccer competition. Several years ago Mr Black led a team of boys from Provost Williams school in a week long trip to Hordain.
